Ophir, Utah is a semi-ghost town originally inhabited by Goshute Indians, then settled by prospectors for silver mining. Ophir has a very unwelcoming feeling about it. I’m not sure if this is a community which doesn’t like outsiders, or if there is history in this area that gives it a restless feeling. We have investigated this area a few times in 2005-2006.
The investigations in Ophir were mainly done with 35mm cameras and digital cameras.
We didn’t venture too far from our vehicle and we investigated the uninhabited areas. These were quick investigations, as we had the feeling the town didn’t appreciate us there, but in the short time of touring Ophir we had a bit of success with paranormal activity. One uninhabited mining house seemed to have a latched door open on us. There was no wind in the area or people. We had a since of being watched and we photographed a picture of a miner returning to his home (that’s the feeling we had, combined with the picture we caught, but you can decide for yourself). We investigated this area both in the daylight and at night. Creepy either way, yet it was still a very beautiful area.
