True Energy Orbs:

The most spectacular example of a natural orb is that of ball lightning. Ball lightning is a rare but well documented phenomenon. It appears that these brilliant orbs are pockets of energy that can behave very strangely, such as passing through glass without breaking it and throwing off unusual colors of light. There have been reports of Julius Caesar and Christopher Columbus witnessing this phenomenon, or something like it. Few paranormal investigators would claim that orbs are ball lightning however. These are merely cited as examples of abnormal energy taking on a spherical shape . Other orbs have been known to form in the presence of man-made electrical activity. In one instance, microwaves have been known to create balls of energy.

Although it has been noted that orbs can be formed naturally, why are they often associated with paranormal events? Well, paranormal entities need energy too. In locations where excessive energy is found, it may be easier for an entity to manifest. Some investigators have also seen orbs gathering immediately before a supernatural being becomes visible. Orbs have been found in many areas reported to have paranormal activities. During the Camp Floyd investigation, park officials reported that orbs are frequently caught in photographs all around Fairfield, Utah.

Does RIP consider orbs paranormal?

The answer is a qualified no.

An orb is not proof that anything paranormal is occurring. A true orb does indicate energy in the area though. High-energy events, people, and situations tend to produce more orb activity in photos. While not evidence of anything paranormal, this energy could be available to the unseen world, so if an orb is present, it’s best to keep eyes, ears, and camera lenses open.

Many curious people have seen orbs in photographs and have wondered what they were witnessing. Are these dust specks or evidence or a spirit plane? RIP has been researching orbs and has a few answers which may be useful. It should be noted that no unified explanation of orb activity exists. Opinions differ, but here is a summary of what has been discovered.

What is an orb?

A true orb is a ball of energy. They may be caught in photos or on film, or may even be seen with the eye. Orbs are generally spherical because this is the most condensed, easiest form for nature to create. Are they paranormal? That remains to be determined, but investigation will shed further light on the subject.

History:

Orbs have been seen in snapshots since the beginning of photography. From early Civil War photos, orb evidence is seen. These have continued down to the present day. More recent digital images have these light spots.

False Orbs:

Many orbs in photographs can be explained due to water or dust in the air. The flash of a camera may be caught reflected off the surface of such a particle, shining back to the lens as a circular light. Also, a small particle very close to the lens may give an unusual signature. Often these are mistaken as orbs, but a careful observation can rule these out. For those experimenting with orb photography, it is recommended to try and photograph water droplets and dust particles so that a comparison may be made.

Hauntings can happen almost any ware weather a place is old or new. Hauntings may be tied to land, building, an object, location, or to a particular person. Some signs to watch for are:

Unexplained Noises Cold or Hot Spots (randomly occurring)

Items moving on their own Eerie feeling of being watched

Doors opening or closing Unexplained smells

Mists or Manifestations Appliances Turning off or on (randomly occurring)

Unexplained Voices or Whispers Unexplained power surges or outages

Items disappearing (sometimes reappearing) Strange pet or animal behavior

Unexplained thoughts or nightmares Or other unexplained phenomena

These are typical examples of what someone may experience in a haunted location. But if you are not sure, or if you feel like you are experiencing a haunting you can contact us always at no charge and we are always glad to help.

There are more than one type of hauntings and more than these types of clues a haunting may provide. Our organization is willing and happy to help anyone in this circumstance even if you are not sure of what you are experiencing. We understand that some hauntings are constant while other activities of the paranormal may come and go, either way we are the ones to talk to.

If we do come across something that may need further assistance, we will be happy to direct you, counsel you, and provide many means in resolving the situation. In either case, we are here to help and you are not alone!

History of EVP

History of EVP by Michelle LWith the rise of spiritualism in the 19th century, attempts to make contact with the dead had drifted from cult-like activities to a more scientific and technological focus, beginning with Thomas Edison. Edison strived to make a type of phonograph device to contact the dead in 1890s, and then by the late 1920’s he tried to use special chemical equipment to accomplish this. Unfortunately, the first spirit voices were captured on phonograph in 1938, seven years after his death. From 1903-1987 Friedrich Jurgenson pioneered the study of Electronic Voice Phenomena, or EVPs. It began when he was recording bird noises. While playing back the recordings, he realized he could hear human voices when no other human was in the vicinity of him recording. To further test his discovery he would continually record voices in areas where no humans were around, and by 1964 he published a book on his findings titled “Voices from Space.” Later, Jurgenson ended up recording the familiar voice of his deceased mother who called him by his nickname. At this time he assumed that he was recording voices from beyond the grave. In 1967 he published Srechfunk Mit Verstorbenen (radio-link with the dead). In 1964, Dr. Konstantin Raudive was reading the book “Voices from Space” published by Jurgenson and was impressed to meet him. They began working together in 1965. They made many recordings and in one of them they heard many voices. After playing the recording back a number of times, they could understand all the voices. The last voice on one of their recordings was a women's voice saying “Va Dormir, Mararete” (go to sleep Margaret). Mararete Petrautzki was a friend of Raudive and had recently died recently from an illness. In his life he recorded more than 100,000 of these EVPs. Today EVPs are still being recorded and studied, mainly by paranormal researchers. Although efforts have been made to prove that the recorded voices are not made by radio, TV, or other transmitted sound ways, EVPs still are not widely accepted as any sort of scientific evidence. Although the study of EVPs remains controversial to science, R.I.P. believes that this is proof that there is more out there than meets the eye. We are dedicated to exploring this study further. This type of evidence is one that doesn’t require specialized equipment and which almost everyone can do. If inclined to do your own EVP experiment, try it in an area where there aren't people or other sounds to cover any potential voices you may encounter. We prefer doing most of our EVP at night when most people and animals have quieted down. We have had luck in cemeteries or places with extensive history. It may take a few tries to record and EVP. Remember that sometimes the voices may come in as a whisper or at a faster speaking rate, so be prepared to listen to your recording a few times and in quiet surroundings. Shadow People Ghosts, Imagination, or Supernatural Visistations?

Growing up around shadow people, by Michelle L When I was a child, I would see dark figures move about the house. While they were not present at all times, I did notice that they seemed to show themselves when the environment was more chaotic. The chaos I’m referring to is not the normal hustle and bustle of life, but more of anger, arguing, tension, and other negative events. What I would come to know as “Shadow People” would mostly appear in peripheral vision, however some I would see “dead on”. One, in particular had a very aggressive manner. I would wake up and see the entity standing on the end of my bed looking at me. As time passed, I would see it in the day time as well. It would hang around my house and walk around my bedroom. After years of seeing it, the entity got even more aggressive. One night, I was shaken awake from a deep sleep by the entity. Even though I was young, I didn’t want people to think there was something wrong with me or that I was lying. The entity noticed the fear I projected, and seemed to feed off of it. At this point, I was seeing it daily, when I was wide awake. I tried everything I could think of to get rid of him; I prayed, left lights on, and whatever else a young child could think of for protection. These were only temporary fixes. These incidents would occur randomly for the next several years. I never knew when to relax or be in fear. I would wake up and see this entity standing on the end of my bed looking at me. One afternoon when I was 17 I was sitting in my bed reading when the dark shadow figure came into my room and shook me by my shoulders violently. I froze, I didn’t even breath, and I was petrified. It seemed like an eternity before it left even though it was only for a few seconds. I went to bed that night feeling very disturbed but I tried not to focus on what happened. The next morning I woke up sicker than I have been in years. I had a very high fever and by that afternoon I had a terrible case of pneumonia, which kept me down for a week. Later in that same year the shadow figure walked into my room and stood at the end of my bed watching me. I was lying down at the time but nowhere close to being asleep. When I saw him, my initial response was fear, however after remember the last incident which made me so ill, my fear turned to anger. I sat straight up and looked at him and demanded that he leave. The fear left me and I felt nothing but power when I demanded him out. That was it; he was gone. Now I still saw other shadow beings, but the one that was tormenting me I never saw again. Interesting enough, 15 years later talking with members of my family, I found out that many if not all of them had seen shadow figures within the house but no one wanted to say anything. It’s nice to know I want crazy and that these events did take place. .

St George Shadow by S.FoxI saw my first Shadow Person at the age of 40. I traveled to St George, Utah to stay alone at a friends vacation condo. I was going through a divorce and needed some time to myself.It was roughly 2:00 AM and I was tossing in bed. I was so grief stricken and angry that my 23-year marriage was ending that I simply could not fall asleep. Giving up on sleep I was about to get out of bed, grab a chocolate creamsicle from the freezer, and then go watch TV.At that moment I saw the shadow of a tall man step into the bedroom door frame at the foot of my bed. "Oh dear God," my mind screamed, "there is an intruder in this house!"My thoughts were everywhere at once: "It's just a burglary. The condo is usually vacant. He probably knows that and expects it to be empty now! In the dark, can he see there is someone in this bed? Does he know I'm here? Will he kill me? Will he rape me?"I started looking for an escape. He walked into the room and began moving across the foot of the bed. I still wasn't sure if he even knew I was there. Can I slide off the side of the bed and then underneath it without him hearing me? If I make a dash for it, can I outrun him?The dark figure disappeared when he stepped in front of the black closet doors that were located at the side of the bed. I waited for him to get as close to the top of the bed as I could bear before making a run for it. That way he would be at the farthest point from the door and I would have the best chance of making it out of the house before he caught me.My eyes were fixed on the edge of the closet, waiting for him to be visible again. I saw the figure lean forward at the waist so that only his upper body was visible against the white wall, his lower body still blending into the dark background of the closet doors. He was now leaning forward at almost a 90 degree angle, his head almost level with mine.My mind was still racing, "Run! Run! No, be perfectly still. He'll go steal the TV and leave, never knowing you were here. No, run!" But I couldn't move. I was either paralyzed by indecision, panic, fear, or stupidity, I'm not sure which.With his shoulders remaining facing forward.He turned his head towards me. It was a slow, creepy movement. He was looking straight at me. His head then pulled just slightly more into an upright position, and he began slowly pressing his face toward me.Yeah, he knew I was there.At that moment, I realized this was not a man. There was no face, no eyes, no features at all, no indication of clothing. It was just a Shadow Man. The room had a heavy, dead feeling to it that wasn't there before. It was like a vacume.I leapt out of bed and raced for the living room, flipping on lights as I went. I jumped up on the big living room chair and stood there shaking. What now? I don't know how I long I stood on that chair and I don't know what made me think that I was safer doing it. For cripes sake, it's not as if I saw a mouse.The moment it was morning I gathered my things and drove the 6-hours back home. I couldn't get there fast enough. But I did not go straight to my house, I went to my sister's. I asked her husband, an Elder in our church, if he would give me a blessing and if he could bless my house because I feared it might have followed me home. I refused to tell him specifically what the blessings were for. He wouldn't believe me and I would feel like a mental case.I was clearly distressed, so when my brother-in-law left the room after the blessing, my sister convinced me to tell her what was wrong. I told her and asked if she thought I was looney.She told me that she knew I was telling the truth because she saw the same thing when she was crying in her bed, in the midst of a divorce, sick with despair. Then she asked me what it said to me. Said to me? I don't remember it making a single sound! What did it say to her?! She wouldn't tell me. I got the impression it was dark, evil.My sister believes that the figures who came to us prey on people who are weak, vulnerable, in pain. They encourage you to hurt yourself or perhaps others.They will show up when there is an intense level of emotion. If you are suicidal, they are there to encourage, entice, or enrage you into going through with it. If you are not suicidal they are happy to place the thought in your head. I was stunned.Since that day I have had a shadow man that comes out of the hall bathroom and stands in my doorway watching me while I am in bed. It is not the same entity that I saw in St. George. It will step to my door frame and watch me for 5, 10, 15 minutes. Then turn and walk back into the bathroom. I feel no fear. No danger. None of the oppressive, dark energy that came with the other one. I've come to believe that this one is here to watch over me and that it came when my brother-in-law prayed for the safety of me and my home.Numerous visitors in my home have seen it, without me ever having told them my story or that it is here. They have each described it exactly as I see it:Featureless, it walks out of the hall bathroom, stands in my bedroom doorway for a moment, and then turns and walks back into the bathroom. If I am in bed, it lingers. If I'm not in bed it quickly moves away.S.FoxMurray, Utah

True Life Ghost Stories Growing Up Haunted By Amber M I grew up in the small town of Orcutt, CA. This is a nice community nestled between the larger coastal towns of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. My neighborhood was right up against the rolling hills of the coastal range, and 2 blocks up the road was an old pioneer cemetery dating back to the late 1800’s. The neighborhood was known for its colorful stories of ghosts. My first experience with the paranormal was quite innocent. At the age of about 5 years old, I moved into my own bedroom. At night, I would hear the sound of my mother’s bell collection ringing. The sound would get closer and closer. It would scare me, but I never ran. At times, I would hear that sound, coupled with the sound of cabinet doors opening and shutting. As I got older, my experiences would get more pronounced. My paternal grandfather passed away in 1992. I was 7 years old at the time. I remember a month or so after he passed, a figure materialized right before my young eyes. While the figure’s color and texture resembled that of a storm cloud, the shape and height resembled my grandfather’s stature. I cannot say for sure if this figure was my grandfather, and at the time I was very frightened. Looking back, however, I feel it very well could have been him saying his last goodbyes. During those horrendous years of puberty were the worst. There was one entity in the house that would torment me relentlessly. There were many occurrences throughout my youth, but one incident in particular stands out: One night while attempting to sleep, a bell that I had on my door began ringing. Initially, I thought it was my sister, though when it didn’t stop I began questioning if it was. During the confusion, the bed I was laying in began getting banged on by what sounded like a mallet. The force was so loud and so violent that my bed was actually shaking. As a lay there crying, trying with all of my might to muster up the courage to saying, I finally got the nerve to tell whatever it was to stop. Surprisingly, it did, for the night at least. This incident, to date, was my most terrifying. Other haunting experiences happened throughout the years. Most of these occurred in my home however I would see and hear things almost anywhere I went. The personalities of the spirits ranged from mean to jovial. During these tenuous years, I suffered from depression, headaches, and a general lack of sleep. I was so terrified to confront whatever it was that was tormenting me. I feared that if I acknowledged its presence, it would gain power and take control. Despite this fear, I was still fascinated. I would read books about hauntings, spiritualism, and any other strange occurrences. My family and I moved to Utah when I was 18 years old. Once we moved, I ceased to have any major paranormal incident. The terror waned, but my fascination did not. I began looking for groups to join a couple years after I moved. The first group I found was Key2RIP, and was smitten. I wanted so badly to face my fear of the unknown and learn the truth about the paranormal. While the answers to what the paranormal is exactly have not been answered as of yet, my fears began to subside. I believe that any fear can be extinguished with knowledge. As an investigator for the past 5 years, I have participated in paranormal conferences and I am currently involved in non-profit research. It’s an exciting life!.

My Impressions: At the current moment, my feelings towards this box are mixed. While I have had some interesting “conversations”, it is very hard to say whether or not these were just audible matrixing. For those not familiar with the term, “matrixing” is when our brains manipulate random information and make it familiar to us. This happens mostly with the eyes and the ears. Basically, you are hearing or seeing what you want. For example, I ask the box, “What is your name”. When the radio scans, random pops and cracks come through, and even a random radio wave. Since I just ask what the spirit’s name is, I am listening for ANY name. I could think I hear “John”, or “Ann”, but in reality, it could easily be a random noise my brain manipulated. One experiment I suggest you try is this: 1. Write a list of questions that have specific answers. Make sure they are not simple like “What is my name?” Try something only YOU would know (preferably a two or more syllable answer). 2. Have a group of 4 or more people. Split into two even groups. 3. Give the list of YOUR questions to the group that you are NOT in. They should also have the box. Now separate into different rooms, where you cannot hear the answers. 4. Have that group ask the questions, making sure they write down any responses. 5. Once they have responses, they will confirm with you whether or not they are right.During the time of the experiment, your group could continue doing other experiments, or investigate other parts of the building. Of course, with any experiment, there are different ways to do things. Another option would be to have you ASK the questions while you are in a room separate from the box. The second group would not say anything, and then write down any words that come through. Now, you may be asking “What’s the point of me writing down the questions, but not being there for the answers?” The answer is this: If they are YOUR questions, you know what to expect the answer to be. Therefore, you would be much more at risk of matrixing the sounds into what you want to hear. It is a lot more convincing if those who wrote the answers down have no knowledge of what the answers should be. So again, make the questions something that only you know.
How it works:There are two different versions of the Frank’s Box. The earlier version, called Voltage Tuning, used a standard white noise generator, which was linked to a random voltage. This device would tune randomly to radio frequencies for a split second, and then to frequencies with static. “Shack Hack”After years of hearing about Frank’s Box, I decided to do some research to see if there was a way I could create my own. An easy solution was the “Shack Hack” spirit box. All it took was a radio shack brand radio, a screw driver and a little manipulation to the motherboard, and we were good to go. The process literally took me 5 minutes to complete. There are plenty of sources online with instructions, so I will not go into detail on that. Basically in this model, all you are doing is breaking the radio scan button. Rather than stopping when the box finds a radio frequency, it continues to scan.

The Mind of a Ghost HunterBy Amber M In this business, we see all sorts of things. From the tangible, to the supernatural, we always have to be on guard. The mission we have set out to do is to prove what many see as being “improbable”, or even “impossible”. Our job is to rule out any and all explanations. The first job is to make sure the client is credible. We do this by conducting client interviews. To rule out internal causes (drug use, mental stability, etc) for the paranormal, our interviewer does need to delve into the client’s psyche. We will also try to validate their stories. For instance: A client claims to have had a vision that was then confirmed by another party. We, in turn, would contact the other party and verify the story. We would also see if that party has any personal or professional connection to the client that would give them reason to fabricate information. This is an essential part of our process. Another thing we will look for during the interview process is the client’s motives. Are they seeking business, validation, reassurance, notoriety? There are many reasons a client will contact a paranormal group, and we have to ask ourselves these questions to prove the validity of the client and the case. Once the interview process has ceased, we then move onto the next process. This is the actual investigation. Equipment we generally use is voice recorders, cameras and camcorders, EMF detectors, temperature gages among other devices. While we are a scientific group, meaning we do not rely on psychics or other metaphysical means (dowsing rods, crystals, tarot), it’s important to note that our methods are not exact. It’s incredibly easy to mistake a living person talking under their breath as an EVP. It’s equally as easy to mistake a smudge on your camera lens as something paranormal. Often times, we will call this “contamination”.While impossible to fully prevent contamination of evidence, we do use a few techniques to lessen the possibility. During an EVP session, investigators should always indicate the following: Date, time, location and who is with them in the room. If any extraneous sounds are heard or made (road noises, animals, whispers, investigators in other rooms, etc), it’s imperative that the investigator notes these. This helps a lot in the reviewing process, as we do not want to mistake a quiet, natural sound, for a spirit. It’s also important to NOT speak over each other. Not only is it simple to mistake someone speaking over another as an EVP, but it’s also just common courtesy. As for the contamination of the cameras, it’s not as easy to eliminate contamination during the investigation process. However, certain steps can be taken to lessen the possibility of contamination. For instance, often times a photographer’s hair or even the camera strap will show up as a “glowing vortex”. It’s important as an investigator to keep your hair pulled back and if there is a camera strap, to keep it around your wrist. We also must be careful of reflections while taking photographs. Cameras now have super-bright LED flashes, which are easy reflected back by even slightly glossy surfaces. As for preventing smudges on lenses, it’s obviously a good idea to keep your camera in top condition, and make sure the lenses are clean. Even in top condition, however, some camera lenses will pick of tiny scratches and smudges. It’s important to review all photographs at once.During the review process we will begin the process of elimination. Remember, our goal is to produce the most viable evidence for our clients. We do not want to show our clients anything that may be questionable. Rule of thumb: If there’s any doubt, throw it out. Well, not completely out, but put it aside for further review. As I mentioned above, cameras can pick up small scratches and smudges. The light of the flash, or even of the room, can reflect on these flaws and cause what looks like an energy. The way to rule these out is to look at all of the photos from your camera. We will check to see if any anomalies match. Generally if you see a few pictures with the same anomaly in the same location of the photo, it’s always going to be a flaw in the lens. I mentioned before about glossy surface reflections. When reviewing these photographs, we will note the angle of the photo versus the angle of the reflection.Along with the photographic/video evidence, we will go through hours of audio recordings. As I previously stated, it’s important that investigators note the date, time, location, whoever is present as well as any extraneous sounds. This helps the reviewing process to eliminate possible contamination. We strive as a group to produce the most quality evidence for our clients. We are not in this for the glory. More than anything, we would like to prove or disprove the existence of these phenomena, whether they end up being completely natural or something that can be explainable.
